Henry Hill defines the modern American Wiseguy. From the age of 11, Henry Hill immersed himself in the underground world of organized crime. Hill’s associations to renowned organized crime families including the Lucchese and Bonanno families are as infamous as the heists Hill pulled off during his career as a Wiseguy.
Born to an Italian mother and Irish father and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Henry Hill was powerful, respected and dangerous during the years he was associated with the mafia. Hill’s history of criminal activity was highlighted by the 1972 Lufthansa Airlines heist which netted eight million dollars in cash, precious stones and securities. Hill was also the mastermind behind the 1978 Boston College basketball point shaving scheme where he and his associates rigged nine games.
After a quarter century of mob activity, Henry Hill decided to call it quits and start a new and decent way of life. After turning states evidence against his organized crime family and associates in 1980, Henry Hill entered the FBI’s “witness protection program” where he spent the next seven years living incognito. Henry Hill assisted the FBI in 15 investigations and 50 arrests during his time in the witness protection program.
Hollywood’s intrigue with Henry Hill came to fruition in 1990 with the blockbuster feature film “Goodfellas”. The movie, directed by Martin Scorsese, captured the essence of Henry Hill’s life of crime in the mafia. The film also served as a catalyst for international interest in Henry Hill and his life as one of the most well-known mobsters in America. Henry Hill’s story was originally captured in Nicholas Pileggi’s New York Times best-selling novel “Wiseguy.”
